Buying Guide to find Best Cordless 18 Gauge Brad Nailer

Here are the most important aspects of a cordless brad nailer you should consider before making a decision.

Motor

A cordless brad nailer utilizes a motor to push nails into the wood surface. Commonly, there are two popular types of motors used in such nailers, including brushless and brushed motors.

A brushless motor is more powerful and efficient than a brushed motor. Another essential factor to consider is motor power. Make sure to select the powerful motor for the best nailing performance on different materials.

Battery

The Battery is another vital aspect to consider before buying an 18 gauge cordless brad nailer. Remember, the Battery is the only power source of the tool, so you have to be careful with it. Typically, brad nailers are equipped with 18V batteries, but for better performance, it is recommended to choose the one with 20V.

Also, consider the Amp-hour (Ah), which refers to the ampere current amount the batter offers in an hour. When it comes to Ah, always go for the maximum. Battery specification plays a vital role. It is wise to use the batter recommended by the manufacturer.

Charging

The battery performance also depends on the charging time. Nowadays, the fast charging feature helps to save time and energy. In case the Battery doesn’t support fast charging, compare the charging by measuring its watts. All you need is to multiply the input of amp and voltage (V x AMP= Watts).

In simple words, if the Battery takes more watts, the charging time will be less. It also depends on the output watts of the charger. For best charging results, always use the charger provided by the manufacturer.

Magazine Capacity

Commonly, nailers are equipped with a magazine that can load up to 100 brad nails. Don’t forget to check the length compatibility as there are brads with more than 2 inches length. Some nailers can fit 2 1/8 inches brads. If you are choosing this type of magazine, try to find the matching nailer. There are nailers that work with crown staples which are ideal for multitasking. These cordless brad nailers are versatile in nature and can be used for nails and staples.

Dual firing mode

This feature helps to choose between the precise and continuous firing modes. The dual firing feature is great for different tasks. You may need to fire nails at a fast speed along a straight line or small space. The dual firing mode not only saves time but also helps to work more accurately.

Nailer Weight

A cordless brad nailer has more weight than a compressor-powered nailer due to the Battery. There are no cords, so you have to balance and support the complete unit by yourself.

Selecting the cordless brad nailer with heavyweight is not ideal for long working projects. Make sure to choose the brad nailer with lightweight for long day projects.

Dry Fire Lock Safety

There are brad nailers featuring a display window to check the number of nails in the magazine. However, keeping an eye on the nailer’s status can be a bit difficult, especially when you are busy working. That’s where you need safety features like Dry fire lockout to prevent empty fires. Dry fires can seriously damage your tool. Typically, when there are less than 10 nails remaining in the magazine, the lockout function will prevent the gun from firing nails.

Tool-Free Depth Adjustment and Jam Clearing

You need to adjust the nail depth according to the wood surface. A brad nailer with a tool-free adjustment feature helps to adjust the nail depth without using any external tool such as a wrench. Just rotate the knob or press the button to the required depth and you are good to go.

Jams are very common with brad nailers, and you have to clear them properly. The quick jam release function is ideal for clearing jammed nails quickly. Just release the latch to open it and remove the jammed nails.

Additional features

A narrow nose design is useful to reach tight working spots. You can also purchase a separate narrow nose for your nailer from a nearby store.

LED lights are handy to illuminate the dark working areas and drive nails precisely. Also, the built-in indicator lights alert you about the errors such as remaining brad nailers, motor heat up, or low battery power.

No-mar tip helps to prevent the wood surface from dents and stains.

Final words

The 18 gauge cordless brad nailer is a perfect choice for the casing, trim work, decorative molding, baseboard and paneling, and veneer. If you prefer more intricate finish work, the best cordless 18 gauge brad nailer is made for you. The benefit of these nails is their cordless operation, small head, and above all, they leave the less prominent hole as compared to 16 gauge brad nailers.
