Also, be sure about the needed length of a chain. Take your chain and put it on the workbench. Don’t forget to secure it using the clamp or vise to ensure that the chain should not move while cutting.

If the chain is already attached to something, you can keep it steady using your hands or by the support of the item the chain is attached to. It is better to use something else for holding as using hands can be dangerous during cutting.

After adjusting the chain, start sawing. Put the hacksaw blade at the position of the chain-link you want to cut. Keep sawing until the chain is cut. However, the process may take time and strength, so be patient.

Cutting Chain with Small Pliers

This cutting technique works best for small and delicate chains such as jewelry or necklace chains. But you have to be careful with such a procedure as jewelry is an expensive item to deal with. You can’t use any power tools such as best small chainsaws or another one in such case. You need a small and sharp tool, and there is nothing better than pliers.

Cutting Chain with Small Pliers

There are different types of small pliers available on the market; each one is manufactured for a different purpose. You need to choose the one known as Nipper. These small pliers are specifically created to cut thin metal such as wires or chains.

Put the chain on the flat surface and place the part you are looking to cut inside the pliers. Carefully adjust the chain between the blades so that it cuts the part you want to cut. Being a thin and delicate chain, it doesn’t need much pressure while cutting.

Cutting Chain with Angle Grinder

If the chain is too thick, you can also use a grinder along with the metal blade on the end of it to properly grind through the chain.

Secure the chain in the vise and place the link you want to cut in it so that the link sticks up from the vise. It will allow you to get it with your angle grinder.

Use a cut-off wheel specially designed for cutting metal. Before cutting, don’t forget to wear work gloves and protective glasses. If needed, use hearing protection too.
