How to Protect Glass Top Stove from Cast Iron

Before sharing the protection procedure, it is essential to consider the basics of handling cookware near glass top stoves.

1. Heat Cookware for Longer

Electric glass cook tops take some time to warm up properly, and therefore, cast iron cookware also takes more time to heat up as compared to the gas stove. It is essential to start heating the cookware on low flame and then gradually increase the heat to medium-high or medium. (you first said glass stove takes more time w.r.t other e.g. gas stove and then you said in simple words cast iron takes more time w.r.t other material? These both are different things na)It helps in even heat distribution and allows cooking in the best way for desired results. (how is this a new paragraph?)

2. Wash Before Heating

Wash Cookware Before Heating

Before you start the cooking process, it is vital to thoroughly wash the cookware. This is due to the residue sticking to the bottom, which has the tendency to carbonize when you apply heat to it. It is equally important even if you are using cookware for gas stove.

In other words, it leaves black stains on the glass stovetop. Another essential factor to remember is to remove the cookware as soon as possible when you are done with cooking. It would be great if you wipe off the glass surface of your stove.

3. Don’t slide or drop the cookware on the stovetop

The cast iron material is extremely abrasive on the glass stovetop. It is crucial to exercise caution when handling the cast iron cookware near the glass stovetop. Also, don’t drop or slide the cookware on the surface of the stovetop.

Make sure to avoid handling the hot cookware. It is better to wear the best oven mitts when handling cookware near your glass stovetop. The case is even more important in the case of cast-iron variants.

4. Use a heat diffuser to prevent damages

This is one of the famous ways to avoid cast iron damages on a glass stovetop. A heat diffuser is a little utensil that is placed on the stove to diffuse heat from it and distribute evenly throughout the bottom surface of your pan. It’s just like a buffer between the cookware and the glass stove.

Therefore, the best heat diffusers are best for protecting the glass stovetop from rough and heavy cast iron cookware. You can easily find them in nearby stores. Just place the heat diffuser over an element and then place the cast iron cookware on the top of the diffuser.

Remember; always use medium heat with these kitchen utensils as high heat can damage both the heating element and stove surface. Never heat up your diffuser without placing the cookware on it.

Tips to Prevent scratches on Glass Stove Top

Take a look at the important things you should consider while using the cast iron cookware on the glass stovetop.

Don’t use Round Bottom Cookware.

Cookware with a flat bottom is ideal for a glass stovetop as they are more stable than round bottoms. They cause fewer scratches even when shifted accidentally.

Cool your Cookware elsewhere

When you are done with cooking, it is advised to remove the cookware the right way to prevent scratches on the glass stove.

Handle Spills Right Away

Train for Caution

How to Clean a Glass Stove Top

Typically, spilled food gets stained on the stovetop easily. Let the top cool, and then sprinkle baking soda generously with vinegar on the stains. Take some hot water and dip a clean towel in it. Extract the fluid from the towel and place it on the stovetop over the vinegar and baking soda. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.

Now remove the towel and clean the vinegar and baking soda solution using a microfiber cloth. Don’t forget to brush the surface using bleach. Always use a clean microfiber towel to buff off stains.

For best results, it is recommended to clean your glass stovetop after cooking. The problem is, we don’t pay attention to small stains, and when they start building up, we look for cleaning solutions.
